Welcome to the Mayhem
Hello fellow Mordheimers!
My name is Timo Kurvi and I would like to present a new campaign to our community, Mayhem in Mordheim. This is my first foray into publishing, even though I have been writing and playing both wargaming and rpg campaigns for years (decades actually…gees). While still developing, I hope this public beta will improve the campaign as a greater number of you get a chance to poke and prod its scenarios, campaign mechanics, and the strategies that follow from them. ANY feedback you have for me is greatly appreciated. :-)
Mayhem in Mordheim is a touch more complex than many of the fantastic fan campaigns out there (I would not suggest MiM for beginners without much hand holding from experience players). My ambition is to find a strong blend of narrative and competitive play to make the campaign thrilling for players of both inclinations (and are not most of us a mix of each?).
Many (if not most) Mordheim campaigns are a race for warbands to complete their own campaign objectives. These objectives rarely interact with those of other warbands. While certainly fun, I found myself desiring a common, narrative goal for all players. One which was more zero sum, invoking a sense of cutthroat competition over a limited resource. This just feels more Mordheim to me.
However, a full zero sum game quickly kills interest in narratives. I’m a story teller at heart, so MiM far more about tales than contests. But it’s a happy coincidence that Mordheim’s narrative is all about fierce conflict, and so rules which support direct player competition over objectives also contribute to the narrative’s feel and character.
I hope you find Mayhem in Mordheim a new and interesting way of playing one of our favourite miniature wargames.
Cheers!
Timo
